Evolution of the Planter: From Granite Planter to the Moscow Range

For years, natural granite planters were the cornerstone of high-end landscape design. Known for their immense weight and speckled crystalline finish, they offered a level of permanence that few other materials could match.

The Granite Era

Our original granite collection was sourced from solid igneous rock, hand-finished to provide a rugged yet sophisticated aesthetic. These planters were prized for their:

  • Extreme Durability: Able to withstand decades of weathering.
  • Natural Thermal Mass: Providing significant insulation for root systems.
  • Authentic Texture: A unique, salt-and-pepper finish that changed appearance when wet.

While these pieces remain a testament to classic garden architecture, we no longer stock or sell granite planters. The industry has shifted toward materials that offer the same visual gravity with significantly improved versatility and ease of installation.

The New Standard: The Moscow Range

Replacing the granite legacy is our Moscow range—a collection of heavy-duty fibreglass planters engineered to replicate the look of GRC (Glass Reinforced Concrete).

The Moscow range bridges the gap between the monumental look of the past and the technical requirements of modern construction.

Why we moved to the Moscow Range:

  • The GRC Aesthetic: Unlike standard “plastic-look” pots, the Moscow range features a matte, tactile finish that is indistinguishable from heavy masonry or cast stone.
  • Structural Integrity: Using heavy-duty fibreglass allows for massive, oversized dimensions that won’t crack under the pressure of large root balls or soil expansion.
  • Weight Efficiency: While they look like they weigh half a ton, they are manageable enough for balcony installations and rooftop gardens where structural weight limits are a concern.
  • Weather Resistance: Designed to be UV-stable and frost-proof, ensuring the “stone” look doesn’t fade or peel over time.

Note to Designers: The Moscow range provides the architectural “bulk” required for commercial and high-end residential projects without the specialized equipment often needed to move natural granite.
