Large Trough Planters & Large Rectangle Planter Boxes
Large trough planters give screening shrubs, feature plants and small trees the root volume they need to establish and thrive above ground. Where a standard trough limits what you can plant, a large rectangle planter box opens up the full palette, from dense lilly pilly hedging to multi-stemmed feature trees, while still fitting the linear footprint of a terrace, forecourt or entry.
Our large trough planters come in seven finishes at 1200mm, with our most popular finishes extending to 1500 and 2000mm lengths. The largest, the XL 1800, holds 504 litres of soil. Every planter is internally sealed with waterproof polyurethane resin, stands on built-in feet and has reinforced pre-drilled drainage holes. Each is backed by a 3-year warranty, and large quantities are held in stock at our Brisbane warehouse.

Large Planter Boxes for Trees and Feature Planting
Root volume is the single biggest factor in how well a plant performs above ground. At 600mm deep and 500mm wide, the 1200 and XL 1800 give small trees and large shrubs a planting bed comparable to a garden bed, rather than a pot. The XL 1800 holds 504 litres, enough for multi-stemmed feature trees, olive and lilly pilly hedging, or a mixed planting of canopy, mid-storey and groundcover in a single planter. Specified for apartment podiums, hospitality courtyards, building entries and rooftop terraces, wherever a garden bed isn't an option.
Oblong and Rectangle Planter Boxes for a Seamless Run
The rectangular profile lets large troughs sit flush against walls, balustrades and kerbs, defining space far more efficiently than round or square planters. Where profiles match, units line up as one continuous planting bed. The Manhattan and Milano 1200 and XL 1800 share a 500 × 600mm profile, and the Florence and Moscow 1200 and 1500 share 500 × 500mm. The Manhattan and Milano 1500 sits 100mm lower than the 1200, which suits a stepped, layered arrangement.

Which large trough holds the most soil? The XL 1800, at 504 litres. The 1200 (Manhattan, Milano, Mykonos and Jakarta) holds 336 litres, and the Manhattan and Milano 1500 holds 276 litres.
Can I plant a tree in a large trough planter? Yes. The 600mm-deep 1200 and XL 1800 suit small trees and large shrubs such as olives, lilly pilly, magnolia 'Little Gem' and frangipani. Choose species suited to container culture, and plan for regular watering, as planters dry out faster than garden beds.
How much does a large trough weigh when filled? Filled with saturated potting mix, allow approximately 290kg for the 1200 (Manhattan, Milano, Mykonos and Jakarta), 240kg for the Manhattan and Milano 1500, and 430kg for the XL 1800. Lightweight filler in the base reduces this considerably. For balconies and rooftops, provide filled weights to your structural engineer.
Which sizes line up in a continuous run? The Manhattan and Milano 1200 and XL 1800 share a 500 × 600mm profile, and the Florence and Moscow 1200 and 1500 share 500 × 500mm. These line up flush. The Manhattan and Milano 1500 is 100mm lower than the 1200, so pair those as a stepped arrangement.
How are large troughs delivered? Palletised from our Brisbane warehouse, with delivery Australia-wide. Free pickup is available from our Sydney and Melbourne warehouses; allow 3–5 business days for stock transfer.
