Our most popular large trough size is the Trough 1000 — sized to give mature shrubs and small trees enough root volume without dominating a footpath or entryway. Built For All Weather

Built to Handle the Big Stuff
Large planters carry a lot more than soil — think mature root systems, real weight, and years of exposure with no easy way to swap the pot out if something goes wrong. That’s why every extra-large planter we ship comes with a standard 3-year warranty, extendable to 5 years at checkout.
What’s covered:
- Manufacturing quality — no material defects, warping, or surface chips on delivery
- Structural integrity — guaranteed not to crack or bow under the internal pressure of a growing root system
- Weather resistance — a high-performance finish engineered to handle years of sun and rain without cracking
What’s not covered:
- Natural aging — minor fading or hairline surface cracks from standard long-term outdoor exposure
- Damage from leaving protective packaging on for more than 7 days after delivery
- Structural alterations, including external feet that don’t provide full base support
- Non-standard use, such as converting a planter into a water feature
For builders and specifiers: if you’re putting your name on a large-scale install, the 5-year extended warranty (selectable at checkout) is worth the extra peace of mind — especially on planters this size, where a fix isn’t a quick job.

Low Square and Tall Square
If the Cube 1000 is more capacity than your project needs, the Tall Square and Low Square solve different space problems rather than simply scaling down. Tall Square keeps the footprint tight — ideal for narrow entryways or where floor space is at a premium. Low Square trades height for width, giving spreading shrubs and grasses more root spread without the vertical bulk. Milano Cube 800 sits between the two as a straightforward mid-size option.

Round Planters: Sizes, Ranges & Pricing
Our most popular round sizes are the Milano Low Round and Florence Tall Round — the low profile suits grouped plantings and entryways, while the tall shape works well as a single statement piece where floor space is limited. Unlike terracotta, these won’t crack in frost or fade from UV exposure over time, so they hold their finish through Australian conditions. Exact dimensions and weight vary by range (see the full spec table below).

Sizing a Large Planter for Your Project
There’s no fixed rule for what counts as “large,” but on this page we’re talking planters requiring a two-person lift — generally from around 60cm up to 200cm and beyond in a single dimension.
Why size matters for root health: big plants need proportional root volume. A mature shrub or small tree crammed into an undersized pot will show it — stunted growth, stress, and decline over a season or two, which is a costly problem to discover after installation rather than before. As a rough guide, root volume should scale with the plant’s eventual canopy size, not its size at planting — specify for where the plant is going, not where it starts.
Why size matters for stability: weight and footprint aren’t just aesthetic. A planter carrying a mature tree needs enough mass and base width to stay put in wind and foot traffic, particularly at height (balconies, rooftops) or in high-pedestrian commercial settings. Undersizing here is a safety issue, not just a growth one.
Getting the exact fit: dimensions and weight vary by range and shape — see the full spec table for each shape below to match litre capacity and base footprint to your specific planting plan. If you’re specifying across multiple units for a project, our team can also help confirm sizing before you order — call or email us and we’ll walk through it.
Why Buy Large Planters From Sigma Planters
In stock, not on order. Most importers quote 3-4 month lead times on large-format planters — a timeline that rarely fits a construction schedule. Sigma Planters holds large volumes across our Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne warehouses, so what you’re specifying is available now, not somewhere on a container ship.
Backed for the long term. Every large planter carries a 3-year warranty, extendable to 5 years — because on a commercial fit-out or apartment development, it’s the builder’s name attached to the install, and it needs to hold up long after handover.
Proven on real projects. From rooftop penthouses to shopping centre walkways to commercial façades, Sigma Planters is already specified and installed across Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, and the Gold Coast — see the project case studies throughout this page for examples close to your scale.
See before you specify. Free samples are available if you want to check finish and quality in hand before committing to a large order.
In short: the size and shape are only part of the decision. Availability, warranty backing, and proof on real projects are what make a large planter a safe spec, not just an impressive one.

Built-In Feet Included: Elevated Design Prevents Water Pooling
Feet are built into the base of every planter, lifting it clear of the surface below. In Australian wet seasons, that gap is what stops water pooling under the pot and causing root rot or staining on decking and pavers — not just a drainage nicety, but protection for both the plant and the surface it sits on.
Waterproof: Internally Sealed for Structural Protection, Not Just Convenience
Every planter is internally sealed with a waterproof polyurethane resin. Beyond making planting straightforward — just add potting mix and plant — the seal protects the fiberglass structure itself from prolonged moisture exposure, which is what keeps the 3-year warranty’s structural guarantee meaningful over time.
Pre-Drilled Drainage Holes: Sized and Reinforced for Heavy-Duty Use
Drainage holes measure approximately 25-35mm in diameter and are reinforced at the point of drilling — the most common stress point on a planter under the ongoing weight of wet soil. That reinforcement is what prevents cracking around the hole over years of use, particularly relevant on your larger, heavier-soil-volume planters.
