Warranty?

We proudly offer a 3-year warranty on all our planters to ensure you enjoy years of beauty and functionality. You can extend this warranty to 5 years at checkout.

This warranty covers manufacturing defects that affect the structural integrity of your planter.

What’s Not Covered:

Normal wear and tear: Fading and hairline cracks are natural occurrences over time and are not covered by the warranty.
Improper care: Damage caused by improper handling or use, such as blistering paint from leaving packaging on for more than 7 days, will void the warranty.
Modifications: Our planters are designed for stability on flat surfaces. Adding large, external feet that don’t provide full base support can cause bowing and void the warranty.
Misuse: This warranty applies to planters used for their intended purpose – growing plants. Using them as water features is not covered.

Learn More About Planting Trees in Large Plant Containers

Will My Tree Grow in a Planter?

Yes, many trees can thrive in planters, offering greenery to patios, balconies, and small gardens. However, success depends on several factors.

Choosing the right tree and planter is crucial. Opt for dwarf or slow-growing varieties suitable for containers, such as Japanese maples, olive trees, citrus trees, or certain conifers. The planter should be at least twice the size of the root ball, with adequate drainage holes to prevent water-logging. Larger planters also help regulate soil temperature, protecting roots from heat.

Proper care is essential. Container-grown trees dry out faster than those in the ground, requiring more frequent watering. Use a well-draining potting mix, not garden soil, and provide regular fertilisation. Depending on the tree and your location, you might need to offer some protection from intense midday sun.

Be mindful of long-term growth. Trees in planters will eventually become root-bound, limiting their growth. Plan for this growth by using a larger container or consider root pruning to maintain a manageable size. While container trees may not reach their full in-ground potential, many can flourish for years with attentive care, adding beauty to your landscape design.

Will a Planter Be Able To Handle The Vigorous Root Growth Of a Tree ?

Sigma Planters come with a standard 3-year warranty which can be extended to 5 years. This includes using for Trees

A standard planter, especially one that is too small, will likely not be able to handle the long-term root growth of most trees. Here’s why and what you need to consider:

The Nature of Tree Roots: Tree roots naturally grow outwards and downwards in search of water and nutrients. Confined to a planter, they will eventually:

Circle the inside of the pot (root-bound): This restricts nutrient and water uptake, potentially strangling the tree.
Become densely packed: Leaving little room for soil, air, and water movement, leading to decline.
Exert significant pressure on the planter walls: Potentially cracking or deforming it over time, especially terracotta or thinner plastic.

What kind of tree are you planning to grow? Fast-growing trees with extensive root systems will become root-bound much quicker than dwarf or slow-growing varieties.

Here’s what you need to do to give your tree the best chance:

Choose a large planter from the start: Opt for a container that is significantly larger than the tree’s current root ball – ideally at least twice the width and depth.

Larger planters provide more space for initial root growth and delay the onset of root-bound conditions. Consider extra-large planters made from durable materials like thick plastic, fiberglass, or even concrete for long-term use with larger trees.

Consider the mature size of the tree: Even dwarf varieties will grow over time. Research the mature root spread of your chosen tree to estimate the long-term planter size you might need or if it’s truly suitable for container life.

Be prepared to repot: As the tree grows, you will likely need to repot it into a larger container every 2-3 years. This provides fresh soil and more room for the expanding roots.

Learn about root pruning: For trees that will remain in containers long-term, root pruning is a vital technique. Done during the dormant season, it involves carefully trimming back some of the circling and congested roots to encourage new, healthier growth and maintain a manageable root mass within the pot.

Ensure excellent drainage: Regardless of size, the planter must have adequate drainage holes. Waterlogged soil is a major issue for container trees in Indonesia’s humid climate and can lead to root rot.

Built-In Feet Included: Elevated Design. No Drainage Issues

All planters come with feet built into the base of the planter to assist with drainage and stay mess free.

Waterproof: Internally Sealed for Effortless Planting

All planters are internally sealed with a water proof polyurethane resin. Just add premium quality potting mix and plants.

Pre-Drilled Drainage Holes: Reinforced for Additional Strength

drainage-holesAll planters have drainage holes approx 25-35mm in diameter. These are reinforced  to offer maximum durabilty and longevity.
